2013 Sun Bicycles EZ-3 SX Tadpole Trike

Sun's EZ-3 SX Tadpole Trike is a blast to ride everywhere! The combination of a low-center-of-gravity frame and 3 quick-rolling wheels makes this low-rider handle like nothing else. It's more than just zippy speed though. A plush, fully supportive seat offers unparalleled comfort, too. You'll also love the under-seat steering, which takes all the pressure off your arms and hands. And, this sweet rig sports powerful disc brakes and a hill-flattening 24-speed SRAM/MicroShift drivetrain.

    Comments:

My purchase of a 2007 EZ-3 SX came after looking at a number of tadpole trikes on-line. I test drove a few which I could get access to (there are not that many around). Fortunately, the EZ Racer factory in Watsonville / Freedom California is just a 40 minute drive over the hill from San Jose, and Denton let me run up and down Hangar Way as long as I wanted to get the feel of it. I like the design because I can dial in just about any aspect of the trike just the way I want for the best fit and performance. Being of steel, it may weigh a bit more that the aluminum 2008 and newer models, but I am not riding the lightest diamond frame either. The few extra pounds just makes me a stronger cyclist. The one downside of all that adjustability is the initial set up. It has adjustments for steering, seat, and leg length. The under seat steering has all sorts of variability, and even though the factory assembled it, I spent the evening with a tape measure and an Allen wrench. But once set up, it was truly a joy to ride. I live in the hills and reward myself for a good long haul to the top with a high speed run back down. On my first was when I discovered that I, and evidently the tech' at the factory, neglected to give the toe-in adjustment the time it deserved. What a ride! While my 2007 manual does not mention toe-in settings, the 2008 and later manuals do, and setting the recommended 0-3mm toe-in was not difficult. My family, wanting me to return unscathed from my rides, insisted on a flag whip ( the purchase of which I heartily endorse), and my birthday present was a day-glow florescent green cycling wind breaker. The only lingering concern I had about riding any trike is the visibility issue inherent in a low CG vehicles, however taking reasonable precautions and adopting a realistic outlook (I am invisible!) pretty much negates the issue. While the image of tadpole trikes seems to have succumb to the marketing pitch to those having vertigo or other issues which preclude two wheelers ( I have none), I haven't had this much fun on a bike since I was nine. This thing is a blast. I especially like wheeling up to our local summer concerts, setting the (optional) rear brake in parking brake mode, and kicking back in my seat to listen to the music, catch up on the magazine stack I happen to throw in my pack, have a picnic dinner, or chat with the inevitable admirer of the EZ-3 SX. The bottom line, it is a great first trike. The price point, component package, design and construction is at or beyond the market position it was designed to hit.

        Comments:

I absolutely love this trike. The price is affordable, it is an awesome ride and extremely comfortable, easy to load on my pickup truck and unload, perfect balance, and stopping at stop signs and traffic lights are no longer intimidating. It is as good on hills as my short wheel base Lightning Thunderbolt. It was an excellent purchase and I recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy cycling without any pain or fear of falling over.

        Comments:

This three wheeler is amazing if its modded right. It comes factory made, with two front brakes that can be a bit graby. I replaced the factory brakes with some AVID brakes and this trike model has a set up that also allows you to install a back brake as well. I would recommend if you get on roads, I about did a nose dive when a car ran a stop sign. this will happen if you lock up the brakes. oh and because of my prone profile of only two and a half feet, I got a tall flag. you can disappear behind a bush with this thing. The stearing is hard to get a hang of at first. I had three of my frinds flip the bike, because they got too fast and turn too sharp. this over time can be avoided by practicing on how to lean into the turn. Okay the good part hopefully you havent ran away at this point. This thing is fast, really fast. On a straight away, I can get to about 35 mph. Down hill I have max out about 52 mph before I ran out of hill. It is sneaky, I have accidentally startled three or four people on average during a ride. It has lots if upgrades avalible like a rack, fenders, back brake, and mirrors. It is also very good on any terrain like grass and dirt. it has a steel body though heavy, can take a beating unlike other trikes. and most of all it is very easy to peddle around, I put half the efort into moving around on this thing.

        Comments:

The owner took care of me personally. EXTREMELY helpful and courteous. Nothing but Kudos for the entire experience. The trike is amazing to ride- awesome on paved trails. I do have to keep the tire pressure at 25 lbs. to get a smoother ride, however especially on rough roads. I also need a fender to keep road dirt off my neck and head from the back wheel.
