Our Journey

From 1983 to today

1983

The Beginning

High Peaks Cyclery was established in 1983 as one of the first original multi-sport stores in Lake Placid and the Adirondack Park. Owners Karen and Brian Delaney came to Lake Placid during the Winter Olympics in 1980, fell in love with the area, and decided to set roots. They started High Peaks Cyclery to share their love for the area with a mission of "helping the community enjoy life and the outdoors through professional service and top-notch products."
1990's

Nurturing and Building Trust

Brian and Karen Delaney spent the 90's nurturing both Lake Placid's active/outdoor community by outfitting them with gear and expertise, and also their family, consisting of the four Delaney kids. During this time, the store was located in the old HPC building, AKA "The Round Building", located across from St. Agnes, and became a mainstay for adventure seekers locally and across the whole Northeast region.

Growing and Evolving

After compounding trust and goodwill Brain and Karen were ready to move their growing business to the current location to fit the growing needs. In addition to expanding inventory, the business was also exploring new areas with the addition of the Climbery, a yoga studio, as well as partnering with Jones Outfitters for selling fishing supplies, all under the same roof.
2010's

Sharing Expertise

Athletes and adventurers continued to turn to Brain, Karen, and the HPC as trusted experts mountin sports. As many niche sports, such as triathlon, backcountry, Nordic skiing, rock/ice climbing, mountain biking, and more, grow in popularity, HPC continues to stay at the forefront and stock the most current equipment.

The Second Generation

With the Delaney kids as adults now and creating their own stories, all four find their way back to the Lake Placid area, and Matt starts back, full-time at HPC. As Matt takes over the day-to-day operations, Brian is left with more time and energy to focus on community-focused projects like Scotts Cobble community ski center and the Lake Placid Youth Ski Program.
Today

Continuing to Evolve

We continue to share our love for the outdoors by striving to provide as many people as possible with the tools and knowledge to enjoy more time in nature.
